Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapy promotes engagement and quality of life with growing certification standards. The session covers adaptive sports programmes (wheelchair basketball, sled hockey, adaptive cycling), leisure-skills retraining, community reintegration through recreation, animal-assisted therapy (Pet Partners), and recreational therapy in mental-health settings. Discussion addresses CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) credentialing, adaptive-sports federations (US Paralympics, IPC), recreation in long-term rehab outcomes, outcome measures specific to therapeutic recreation, integration with vocational rehab, and VR-based therapeutic recreation.
