Wearables & Sensors
Wearables provide objective rehab outcome measures and home monitoring with growing clinical-trial use. The session covers smartphone motion capture (OpenCap, Apple ResearchKit), IMU-based gait analysis (APDM Mobility Lab, ProtoKinetics), continuous activity monitoring (ActiGraph, Fitbit, Apple Watch), real-time movement feedback during home rehab, sensor-validated outcome measures, and the integration of sensor data into clinical decision-making. Discussion addresses consumer-grade vs research-grade sensor validation, smartphone-based fall detection, posturography wearables, telerehab platforms with embedded sensing, HIPAA/GDPR privacy considerations, and ML-based activity classification.
